Well. Day two in the big...Michael does blogging... house... yeah.
So yesterday's topic was rather heavy so I figure today we shall talk about something a bit less painful and a bit more superficial!
Do people make Youtube videos to be famous? Well I suppose a lot of people do. In a lot of people's minds Youtube is an easy way to fame. The Noughties (I HATE that term) were a decade where fame seemed so reachable and Youtube fame in a way seemed all the more reachable. All one needed was a camera and a computer and the rest would follow right... right?
Well from the outside it must have seemed like it. Charlieissocoollike literally sat in front of a camera and said things (and occasionally did very stupid dares) and I challenge you to go in a classroom of teenagers and find one person who doesn't know of Charlie. It seemed wherever you looked on Youtube there was a teenager talking and doing stuff with thousands of views and a regular audience. However hidden in the deep dark corner of Youtube were the sad teenagers with their fuzzy audio and video trying so hard to be just like them, and yet just not getting the views.
So really it's a good thing that I am not doing this Youtube thing to become famous, because if I was I feel like I would get really sad all the time. I have a nice group of people who regularly watch my videos and I genuinely love making videos. Does this stop me from Youtube messaging Charlie and Pogobat and the VlogBrothers and Liam and Alex and blaa bla blaaaaa... Well no. No it doesn't. The thing is I do want more views and I do want more subscribers. But not for fame and money (which isn't much anyway and would probably be used for my videos) but for, well appreciation I suppose. I, like any other human being, crave appreciation and attention. I love it when people comment on something I'm proud of saying something nice about me (hint hint) and what I have made. The more viewers and subscribers the more of these lovely comments I have the potential to get.
While this might sound incredibly self-indulgent and self-centred and self-whatever else you'd like to throw out there. Can you honestly say you're different? Can you honestly say that you don't enjoy people praising you for something that you have worked hard on and are proud of? If you can then that's quite impressive assuming you're not lying. So I suppose I do want lots of people to see me and my content, but I really don't want to be "youtube famous", and yes they are different things.
I JUST WANT TO BE LOVED!
The thing is I'm sure that most of the big Youtubers (or at least the ones I watch) make videos for the exact same reason. They enjoy appreciation after hard work and videos are a pretty fun and rewarding way to go about getting this.
I hope you enjoyed reading this
