Youtube Fame?

Well. Day two in the big...Michael does blogging... house... yeah.

So yesterday's topic was rather heavy so I figure today we shall talk about something a bit less painful and a bit more superficial!

Do people make Youtube videos to be famous? Well I suppose a lot of people do. In a lot of people's minds Youtube is an easy way to fame. The Noughties (I HATE that term) were a decade where fame seemed so reachable and Youtube fame in a way seemed all the more reachable. All one needed was a camera and a computer and the rest would follow right... right?

Well from the outside it must have seemed like it. Charlieissocoollike literally sat in front of a camera and said things (and occasionally did very stupid dares) and I challenge you to go in a classroom of teenagers and find one person who doesn't know of Charlie. It seemed wherever you looked on Youtube there was a teenager talking and doing stuff with thousands of views and a regular audience. However hidden in the deep dark corner of Youtube were the sad teenagers with their fuzzy audio and video trying so hard to be just like them, and yet just not getting the views.

So really it's a good thing that I am not doing this Youtube thing  to become famous, because if I was I feel like I would get really sad all the time. I have a nice group of people who regularly watch my videos and I genuinely love making videos. Does this stop me from Youtube messaging Charlie and Pogobat and the VlogBrothers and Liam and Alex and blaa bla blaaaaa... Well no. No it doesn't. The thing is I do want more views and I do want more subscribers. But not for fame and money (which isn't much anyway and would probably be used for my videos) but for, well appreciation I suppose. I, like any other human being, crave appreciation and attention. I love it when people comment on something I'm proud of saying something nice about me (hint hint) and what I have made. The more viewers and subscribers the more of these lovely comments I have the potential to get.

While this might sound incredibly self-indulgent and self-centred and self-whatever else you'd like to throw out there. Can you honestly say you're different? Can you honestly say that you don't enjoy people praising you for something that you have worked hard on and are proud of? If you can then that's quite impressive assuming you're not lying. So I suppose I do want lots of people to see me and my content, but I really don't want to be "youtube famous", and yes they are different things.

I JUST WANT TO BE LOVED!

The thing is I'm sure that most of the big Youtubers (or at least the ones I watch) make videos for the exact same reason. They enjoy appreciation after hard work and videos are a pretty fun and rewarding way to go about getting this.

I hope you enjoyed reading this

Existence - Do I have it?

Well. The time has come where I shall follow the trend and make a blog. You may know me from such places as:

a) The Internet (www.youtube.com/thatoddguywithaface   @OddGuyWithFace)
b) Real (whatever that is) Life
c) You don't know me and you just feel like reading a blog, which I suppose is a perfectly normal thing to do in this day and age

Anyway in this blog I shall write about various things. They may be light hearted, or they may be... quite the opposite. Well I figured seeing as this is the first blog and I don't want to be too hard on you I'd go for the nice light hearted topic of Whether The Hell I Exist And If Not What The F**K Am I Meant To Do With My Life! Or in short: Existence - Do I have it?

The first person a lot of people talk about when the question of existence is brought up is Mr Rene Descarte (or as we shall now know him: R-Dawg). R-Dawg made some interesting points about existence in his meditations, the most famous of which is this:

Cogito, ergo sum
Je pense donc je suis
I think therefore I am

What R-Dawg did in his meditations was essentially get rid of all of the knowledge that he doubted and then try and build up what he knew from there. Ultimately it turned out that, as almost everything we know is perceived through the senses, which as we all know can fool us (ever waved to someone you thought you recognised?) and thus can be thrown into doubt  and all the other stuff (maths, colour etc) must come from the outside of what we know (which might all be a dream) that the only thing that doesn't totally mess with our brain and make us doubt is our own existence

                                                         I Think Therefore I Am

So basically if we can think about all these complicated things then we must therefore exist, because somewhere something (whether it is our physical body or not) is getting incredibly confused by all these strange thoughts and that thinking thing is us.

So there we have it. I exist. In fact I'm absolutely certain that I exist. The problem of course comes in relation to whether all of you exist. I know 100% that I am a thinking thing. How do I know that you are a thinking thing also? Well just as I can't know if you see colour in the same way I see colour, there IS NO BLOODY WAY FOR ME TO KNOW IF YOU ARE A THINKING THING!

So to conclude:

  • I exist
  • You might not
  • All of our brains hurt (or do they)
That was my first blog, I hope you're still feeling okay (if you exist!)
